When I was comin’ up, men were men, and chimps were chimps. We got along. They did volunteer work with the blind, protected us from the Russians and the Italians, and befriended little girls. Nowadays, it’s all Darwin and texting and the hippity-hop music. It’s no surprise that Travis has inspired a wave of copycats.
This weekend, I’m going to reread T. C. Boyle’s “Descent of Man,” just in case any wisdom be found there.

Monkey on the lam! Did they ever catch the little bastard?
Oh yeah. They got him at a nearby Starbucks. Didn’t even let him finish his macchiato.
